A moth reaches at best conditions approximately 2.3 times the wind speed (in about 10 knots of wind). The developers of hydrofoils have done an excellent job over the past 5 years. They focused on the balance between lift and drag behavior under given production technologies and standard materials. Serial foils were created, that spread great joy among sailors in the whole world.
However, what is the next generation of Hydrofoils looking like?
We believe that the use of special materials will lead to adaptive foil geometries, that have a better hydrodynamic efficiency. There is room for driving state of the art.
The target is: boat speed = 2.7 times the wind speed!
